The primary purpose of the Veterans Garden and Park is to honor and memorialize our nation’s armed forces and military veterans. But of equal importance, both venues have been designed to be teaching tools for our youth and future generations. To this end, we have developed a Docent program with age specific curriculum, from kindergarten to adults.
Interactive, fact-based tours are offered to make the experience informative and fun. For our younger students, most of the presentation will be focused on the American Revolution. A historical character will greet them and tell of his or her experience during this time period. They will then tour the rest of the park, and talk about the plaques, but with very little detail. For those 3rd grade through adults, the information given will be based on the age and attention span of the attendees.
We invite families and groups to tour our parks. If you would like to schedule a guided tour, please contact Head Docent Fredilyn Deer at 210-269-4826 or click the Schedule Tour button below. This is a unique and amazing opportunity. We encourage you to take advantage of this program.
